It brings several new chapters together with a series of previously published articles to reflect on these topics. A particular focus is gender mainstreaming, a relatively recent development in equality policy in many industrialised and some industrialising countries, as well as in large international organisations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the International Labour Organization. The book draws upon poststructuralist organisation and policy theory to argue that it is impossible to 'script' reform initiatives such as gender mainstreaming. As an alternative it recommends thinking about such policy developments as fields of contestation, shaped by on-the-ground political deliberations and practices, including the discursive practices that produce specific ways of understanding the 'problem' of 'gender inequality'. In addition to the new chapters Bacchi and Eveline produce brief introductions for each chapter, tracing the development of their ideas over four years. Through these commentaries the book provides exciting insights into the complex processes of collaboration and theory generation. 546 English. 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Political participation.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85104370 650 0 Political candidates|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh93008666|xSelection and appointment.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99002537 650 0 Organizational change.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85095525 650 0 Male domination (Social structure)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2006006807 650 0 Sexism.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85120678 650 0 Feminist theory|xPolitical aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008120366 650 0 Sex discrimination against women.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85120595 650 0 Affirmative action programs.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85001507 650 0 Power (Social sciences)|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85105976 650 0 Women|xEmployment.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85147294 650 0 Women|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85147274 |xGovernment policy.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005269 650 0 Women|xSocial conditions.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85147341 650 7 Political participation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1069386 650 7 Political candidates.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1069218 650 7 Organizational change.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1047828 650 7 Male domination (Social structure)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1741391 650 7 Sexism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1114686 650 7 Feminist theory|xPolitical aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/922822 650 7 Sex discrimination against women.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1114376 650 7 Affirmative action programs.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/798899 650 7 Power (Social sciences)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1074219 650 7 Women|xEmployment.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1176715 650 7 Women|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1176754 650 7 Women.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1176568 650 7 Women|xSocial conditions.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1176947 650 7 Sexism.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/homoit0001278 650 7 Feminist theory.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0002039 650 7 Women.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/homoit0001509 650 7 Womyn.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/homoit0001516 653 0 Gender mainstreaming 653 0 Organizational sociology 653 0 Sex discrimination against women 653 0 Women's rights 653 0 Women and social conditions 653 0 Feminist theory 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Eveline, Joan.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no00021026 776 08 |iPrint version:|aBacchi, Carol Lee.|tMainstreaming politics.|dAdelaide, S.
