The publication of this book finally ensures the availability of all three major collections which constitute the work, edited and translated into English. Richer in Tales than the 'Alphabetic' collection to which this is an appendix (both to be dated c. AD 500), the 'Anonymous' collection presented in this volume furnishes almost as much material for the study of the late antique world from which the monk sought to escape as it does for the monastic endeavour itself. More material continued to be added well into the seventh century and so the spread and gradual evolution of monasticism are illustrated here over a period of about two and a half centuries. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 Early works to 1800|2fast 650 0 Desert Fathers|vQuotations.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2009123230 650 0 Spiritual life|xChristianity|vQuotations, maxims, etc. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010114475 650 0 Monastic and religious life|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85086703|vQuotations, maxims, etc. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001890 650 0 Spiritual life|xChristianity|vEarly works to 1800.|0https: //id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008112195 650 0 Monastic and religious life|vEarly works to 1800.|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008107901 650 7 Desert Fathers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/891139 650 7 Spiritual life|xChristianity.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1130113 650 7 Monastic and religious life.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1025101 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Quotations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423792 655 7 Early works.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411636 655 7 Quotations.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026159 700 1 Wortley, John.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n91001248 776 08 |iPrint version:|aApophthegmata Patrum.
