The need to leave Germany became clear and many rabbis made use of the visas they had been offered. Their resettlement in Britain was hampered by additional obstacles such as internment, deportation, enlistment in the Pioneer Corps. But rabbis still attempted to support their fellow refugees with spiritual and pastoral care. The refugee rabbis replanted the seed of the once proud German Judaism into British soil. New synagogues were founded and institutions of Jewish learning sprung up, like rabbinic training and the continuation of "Wissenschaft des Judentums." The arrival of Leo Baeck professionalized these efforts and resulted in the foundation of the Leo Baeck College in London. Refugee rabbis now settled and obtained pulpits in the many newly founded synagogues. Their arrival in Britain was the catalyst for much change in British Judaism, an influence that can still be felt today. 542 1 |fThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons license |uhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ legalcode 542 1 |fThis work is licensed by Knowledge Unlatched under a Creative Commons license|uhttps://creativecommons.org/ licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 600 10 Baeck, Leo,|d1873-1956.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n50019386 600 17 Baeck, Leo,|d1873-1956.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/6245 647 7 Jewish Holocaust|d(1939-1945)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/958866 648 7 1939-1945|2fast 650 0 Jewish refugees|zGreat Britain.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00009197 650 0 Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85061515 650 0 Judaism|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85070847 650 0 Rabbis|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85110190 |zGermany.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80125931 -781 650 0 Wissenschaft des Judentums (Movement)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008004882 650 7 Jewish refugees.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1730523 650 7 Judaism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/984280 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Rabbis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1086311 650 7 Wissenschaft des Judentums (Movement)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1745898 651 7 Great Britain.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 651 7 Germany.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1210272 655 0 Electronic book. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aZajdband, Astrid.|tGerman rabbis in british exile :|bFrom 'Heimat' into the Unknown. |w(OCoLC)933449139 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkk14j|zOnline eBook.
