Bill Hanford had one of the U.S. Army's most dangerous jobs in World War II: artillery forward observer (FO). Tasked with calling in heavy fire on the enemy, FOs accompanied infantrymen into combat, crawled into no-man's -land, and ascended observation posts like hills and ridges to find their targets. But beyond the usual perils of ground combat, FOs were specially targeted by the enemy because of their crucial role in directing artillery fire. Hanford spent much of his time fighting in the Vosges Mountains in eastern France and then in Germany in late 1944 and early 1945. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Hanford, William B.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2008006756 600 14 Hanford, William B. 600 17 Hanford, William B.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1991755 610 10 United States.|bArmy.|bInfantry Division, 103rd.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n98003912 610 10 United States.|bArmy|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n79063202|xRadiomen|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh00007525|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001237 610 17 United States.|bArmy.|bInfantry Division, 103rd.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/734491 610 17 United States.|bArmy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 533532 610 24 United States.|bArmy.|bInfantry Division, 103rd. 610 24 United States.|bArmy. 647 7 World War|d(1939-1945)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1180924 650 0 World War, 1939-1945|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85148273|xScouts and scouting.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00007937 650 0 World War, 1939-1945|xCampaigns|zWestern Front.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85148349 650 0 World War, 1939-1945|vPersonal narratives, American. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008113356 650 0 Radio operators|zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008110404|vBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Soldiers|zUnited States|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008111156 650 7 Scouting (Youth activity)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1734543 650 7 Radio operators.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1087419 650 7 Soldiers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1125233 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 Personal narratives|vAmerican.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1424071 655 7 Autobiographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026047 655 7 Autobiographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919894 655 7 Personal narratives.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/genreForms/gf2014026142 655 7 Personal narratives.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1423843 776 08 |iPrint version:|aHanford, William B.|tDangerous assignment.|dMechanicsburg, PA : Stackpole Books, ©2008 |z9780811734851|w(DLC) 2008004306|w(OCoLC)191732578 830 0 Stackpole military history series.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2003039464 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=420178|zOnline eBook.
