How did this desire in turn link the epistemological crises produced by the religious upheavals of early modern Europe with the development of new scientific methods? This volume recontextualizes the production of knowledge in the early modern period (1550- 1700), focusing on the social and institutional dimensions of inquiry in light of political and cultural challenges. The collection explores how uncertainties about religious identities (and even the status of irreligion) challenged traditional modes of learning. As knowledge of all sorts was integrated into different traditions in a context of unprecedented religious questioning, institutions and texts sought new means of controlling and regulating "truth." Questions of representation became newly fraught as the production of knowledge increasingly challenged established orthodoxies."--|cProvided by publisher. 588 Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on May 06, 2020). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 17th century|2fast 648 7 1600-1699|2fast 650 0 Religion and civilization|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85112564|xHistory|y17th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006123 650 0 Religion and science|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85112579|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85045631-781|xHistory|y17th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006123 650 0 Certainty|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85022164|xHistory|y17th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002006123 650 7 Religion and civilization.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1093821 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Religion and science.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1093848 650 7 Certainty.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/851461 650 7 Civilization.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/862898 651 0 Europe|xCivilization|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85045637|y17th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002012473 651 7 Europe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1245064 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Fuchs, Barbara,|d1970-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2001054911|eeditor. 700 1 García-Arenal, Mercedes,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n80164461|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tQuest for certainty in early modern Europe from inquisition to inquiry, 1550-1700.|dToronto ; Buffalo ; London : published by the University of Toronto Press in association with the UCLA Center for Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Studies and the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, 2020|z1487507062|z9781487507060 |w(OCoLC)1123215812 830 0 UCLA Clark Memorial Library series ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2003060282|v28. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2369201|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
