He presents examples of the positive relationship between early Christians and the Roman society. With the concept of "recognition" Huttunen describes a situation in which the parties can come to terms with each other without full agreement. Huttunen provides examples of non-Christian philosophers recognizing early Christians. He claims that recognition was a response to Christians who presented themselves as philosophers. Huttunen reads Romans 13 as a part of the ancient tradition of the law of the stronger. His pioneering study on early Christian soldiers uncovers the practical dimension of recognizing the empire"-- |cProvided by publisher. 588 Description based on print version record and CIP data provided by publisher; resource not viewed. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 648 7 30-600|2fast 650 0 Church history|yPrimitive and early church, ca. 30-600. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85025620 650 0 Christianity and other religions|xPaganism.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2022000159 650 0 Paganism|xRelations|xChristianity.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2022000503 650 7 Christianity and other religions.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/859685 650 7 Paganism.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1050321 650 7 Relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1892706 650 7 Christianity.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/859599 650 7 Interfaith relations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1353343 650 7 Church history|xPrimitive and early church.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/1710945 650 7 RELIGION / Biblical Studies / Exegesis & Hermeneutics. |2bisacsh 651 0 Rome|xReligious life and customs.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008116734 651 7 Rome (Empire)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204885 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aHuttunen, Niko, Th.
