Then, in 1937, he left it all behind to pursue an industrial career--first at the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company in Pittsburgh and then, by way of the federal government, at the National Bureau of Standards. In a radical departure from professional norms, Condon sought to redefine the relationship between academic science and technological innovation in industry. He envisioned intimate cooperation with the universities to serve the needs of his employers and also the broader business community. Edward Condon's Cooperative Vision explores the life cycle of that vision during the Great Depression, the Second World War, and the early Cold War. Condon's cooperative model of research and development evolved over time and by consequence laid bare sharp disagreements among academic, corporate, and government stakeholders about the practical value of new knowledge, where and how it should be produced, and ultimately, on whose behalf it ought to be put to use. 588 Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on December 17, 2018). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Condon, Edward Uhler,|d1902-1974.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n50030051 600 17 Condon, Edward Uhler,|d1902-1974.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/10001 648 7 20th century|2fast 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Science and industry|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010112146 650 0 Technological innovations|zUnited States|xHistory|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009103069|y20th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002012476 650 0 Research|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85113030 650 7 Science and industry.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1108521 650 7 Technological innovations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1145002 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Research.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1095153 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 Biographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026049 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 776 08 |iPrint version:|z0822945347|z9780822945345 |w(OCoLC)1032021646 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1887626|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
