Today, people use technology to self-track: hours slept, steps taken, calories consumed, medications administered. Ninety million wearable sensors were shipped in 2014 to help us gather data about our lives. This book examines how people record, analyze, and reflect on this data, looking at the tools they use and the communities they become part of. The authors describe what happens when people turn their everyday experience - in particular, health and wellness- related experience - into data, and offer an introduction to the essential ideas and key challenges of using these technologies. They consider self-tracking as a social and cultural phenomenon, describing not only the use of data as a kind of mirror of the self but also how this enables people to connect to, and learn from, others. The authors consider what's at stake: who wants our data and why; the practices of serious self-tracking enthusiasts; the design of commercial self-tracking technology; and how self- tracking can fill gaps in the healthcare system. In the twenty-first century, no one can lead an entirely untracked life. The authors show us how to use self- tracking data in a way that empowers and educates. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Patient self-monitoring.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2004010488 650 0 Self-monitoring.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2010012165 650 0 Self-care, Health|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85119714|xTechnological innovations.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2001009095 650 0 Medical telematics.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh94007874 650 0 Medical innovations|xSocial aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85082947 650 0 Information technology|xSocial aspects.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009127186 650 7 Patient self-monitoring.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1736391 650 7 Self-monitoring.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1763199 650 7 Self-care, Health.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1111506 650 7 Technological innovations.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1145002 650 7 Medical telematics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1014774 650 7 Medical innovations|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1014193 650 7 Information technology|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/973131 653 INFORMATION SCIENCE/General 653 SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & SOCIETY/General 653 COMPUTER SCIENCE/Human Computer Interaction 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Nafus, Dawn,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2014046343|eauthor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aNeff, Gina, 1971-|tSelf-tracking. |dCambridge, MA : MIT Press, 2016|z9780262529129|w(DLC) 2015039937|w(OCoLC)926821310 830 0 MIT Press essential knowledge series.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2011178343 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1260300|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
