It examines the ceremonial use and artistic reception of the Palazzo Te from the arrival of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in 1530 to the Sack of Mantua in 1630. This book further proposes that we conceptualise the built environment as a performative space, a space formed by the gendered relationships and actors of its time, asserting that the Palazzo Te was constituted by the gendered behaviors of sixteenth-century courtiers, but it was not simply a passive receptor of gender performance. Through its multivalent form and ceremonial function, Maria F. Maurer argues that the palace was an active participant in the construction and perception of femininity and masculinity in the early modern court. 588 0 Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on July 08, 2019). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 20 Palazzo del Te (Mantua, Italy)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh95010650|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 610 27 Palazzo del Te (Mantua, Italy)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/714360 650 0 Architecture|xHuman factors|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85006629|zItaly|zMantua.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79027121-781 650 0 Architecture|zItaly|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85006661|zMantua|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79027121-781|xPsychological aspects. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002011485 650 0 Architecture and society|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85006894|zItaly|zMantua.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79027121-781 650 0 Sex role|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85120663|zItaly|zMantua|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79027121-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Architecture|xHuman factors.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/813457 650 7 Architecture.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/813346 650 7 Psychological aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /1354086 650 7 Architecture and society.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/813574 650 7 Sex role.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1114598 650 7 Gender roles.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000577 651 7 Italy|zMantua.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204700 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMauer, Maria F.|tGender, Space and Experience at the Renaissance Court : Performance and Practice at the Palazzo Te.|dAmsterdam : Amsterdam University Press, ©2019|z9789462985537 830 0 Visual and material culture, 1300-1700.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2017099120 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2171046|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
