If I Lose Mine Honour I Lose Myself reveals honour's complex role as a representational strategy amongst the aristocracy. Thomas' erudite and detailed investigation of multi-generational family papers as well as legal records and prescriptive sources develops a fuller picture of how the concept of honour was employed, often in contradictory ways in daily life. Whether considering economic matters, marriage arrangements, supervision of servants, household management, mediation, or political engagement, Thomas argues that while honour was invoked as a structuring principle of social life its meanings were diffuse and varied. Paradoxically, it is the malleability of honour that made it such an enduring social value with very real meaning for early modern men and women."--|cProvided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 16th century|2fast 648 7 17th century|2fast 648 7 1500-1699|2fast 650 0 Social psychology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85123994|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y16th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006122 650 0 Social psychology|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85123994|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y17th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006123 650 0 Honor|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85061884 |xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh00002758|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y16th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006122 650 0 Honor|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85061884 |xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh00002758|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y17th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006123 650 0 Reputation|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2010013387|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00002758|zGreat Britain|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y16th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006122 650 0 Reputation|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2010013387|xSocial aspects|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00002758|zGreat Britain|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y17th century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2002006123 650 0 Upper class|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85141241|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y16th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006122 650 0 Upper class|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85141241|zGreat Britain|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79023147-781|xHistory|y17th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006123 650 7 Social psychology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1122816 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Honor|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast /960012 650 7 Honor.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/960005 650 7 Reputation.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1763600 650 7 Social aspects.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1354981 650 7 Upper class.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1162136 651 7 Great Britain.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aThomas, Courtney Erin, 1980-|tIf I lose mine honour I lose myself.|dToronto ; Buffalo ; London : University of Toronto Press, 2017|z9781487501228 |w(OCoLC)976415673 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1590567|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
