Like many of these movements, temperance was confined primarily to the northeastern United States during the antebellum period. Viewed with suspicion by Southerners because of its close connection to the antislavery movement, prohibition sentiment remained relatively weak in the antebellum South. In the decades following the Civil War, however, southern evangelicals embraced the movement with unprecedented fervor. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 Geschichte 1850-1900|2idszbz 648 7 Geschichte 1900-1950|2idszbz 648 7 Geschichte 1880-1915|2idszbz 650 0 Temperance and religion|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85133710|zSouthern States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85125633-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Prohibition|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85107330|zSouthern States|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85125633-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 7 Temperance and religion.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1147327 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Prohibition.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1078761 651 7 Southern States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1244550 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aCoker, Joe L., 1969-|tLiquor in the land of the lost cause.|dLexington, Ky. : University Press of Kentucky, ©2007|z9780813124711|z0813124719|w(DLC) 2007025152|w(OCoLC)147981555 830 0 Religion in the South.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n95083305 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=209744|zOnline eBook.
