As films reflect the ways in which myths of nation and national belonging change over time, they are implicated in important historical moments, from Cold War America to the class dynamics of 1980s Thatcherite Britain to the fragmented sense of nation in post-unification Germany. Bonzel shows how sports films provide a means for renegotiating the boundaries of national identity in an accessible, engaging form.National Pastimes opens up new ways of understanding how films appeal to the emotions, using myth-like constructions of the past to cultivate spectators' engagement with historical events. 588 0 Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on December 06, 2019). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Sports films|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85126924|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Nationalism in motion pictures.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh95005642 650 0 National characteristics in motion pictures.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00001044 650 7 Sports films.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1130623 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Nationalism in motion pictures.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1033901 650 7 National characteristics in motion pictures.|2fast|0https: //id.worldcat.org/fast/1033336 653 Australian 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aBonzel, Katharina.|tNational Pastimes : Cinema, Sports, and Nation.|dLincoln : UNP - Nebraska, ©2020|z9781496215529 830 0 Sports, media, and society.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2017155897 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2282116|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
