The Kurdistan Region--Iraq (KRI) is hampered by the lack of such statistics as it aims to improve infrastructure, encourage private-sector development, attract foreign investment, and create a sustainable economy. The authors of this study, which was funded by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), interviewed officials in several KRI ministries, assessed available data within the KRI, conducted cross-country benchmarking, and studied best practices in data-collection methodologies. In this volume, the authors describe the KRG's statistical institutions; identify ten high-priority areas for the KRI and the types of data that should be collected to support policymaking in these areas; and outline a system to collect and disseminate these data on an ongoing basis. The authors conclude with a series of recommendations on the topics that should be addressed by statistics legislation, the structure and oversight of data institutions, the implementation and use of surveys and censuses, and the use of administrative data. Together, these recommendations provide a road map that will help the KRG assemble the core elements of a quality data system, which, in turn, will increase the availability of data to help KRG leaders achieve their most important policy goals. 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 |6880-01|aStatistics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85127580|zIraq|zKurdistān|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n86066772-781|xMethodology.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001902 650 7 Statistics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1132103 650 7 Methodology.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1018722 651 0 |6880-02|aKurdistan|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85073466|xStatistical services.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2001008680 651 0 Kurdistan|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85073466|xStatistics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2003003690|xGovernment policy.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005269 651 7 Iraq|zKurdistān.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1237479 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Burger, Nicholas E.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /no2007083756|eauthor. 700 1 Dogo, Harun,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2014073930|eauthor. 700 1 Kumar, Krishna B.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no99065213|eauthor. 700 1 Malchiodi, Alessandro,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2012081248|eauthor. 700 1 Martini, Jeffrey,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n2008032189|eauthor. 700 1 Mengistu, Tewodaj,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2014073872|eauthor. 700 1 Shatz, Howard J.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no00016779|eauthor. 700 1 Smith, Alexandria C.,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2014073895|eauthor. 700 1 Usanov, Artur,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2014059324|eauthor. 700 1 Yoong, Joanne K.,|eauthor. 710 2 Labor and Population Program.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no93029122 710 2 Rand Corporation,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78083407|eissuing body. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tDesigning a system for collecting policy -relevant data for the kurdistan ...|d[S.l.] : Nielsen Bookdata, 2014|z0833085905|w(OCoLC)878502525 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7249/j.ctt6wq9bd|zOnline eBook.
