Summary This lecture focuses on the mourner sculptures at the Met, and how these and other Burgundian sculptures, many from church façades, were innovative in such areas as individualization, command of three-dimensional space, and artistic self-consciousness. Presented in connection with the exhibition "The Mourners: medieval tomb sculptures from the Court of Burgundy" held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, March 2-May 23, 2010.
