FSIS collects a voluminous amount of data in support of its regulatory functions, but the two major types of FSIS data that are currently being considered for public release are sampling and testing data (derived from standard laboratory tests) and inspection and enforcement data (derived from text written by inspectors). Some of those data are already released to the public in aggregated form but not in disaggregated, establishment- specific form. In recent years, the Obama administration has implemented measures to facilitate openness in government, including the requirement that federal agencies publish information online and provide public access to information in a timely manner; in a form that can be easily retrieved, downloaded, indexed, and searched with tools that are available on the Internet; and without the need for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The Potential Consequences of Public Release of Food Safety and Inspection Service Establishment-Specific Data examines the potential food-safety benefits and other consequences of making establishment-specific data publicly available on the Internet. The report includes how factors such as level of aggregation, timing of release, level of completeness, and characterization of the data or context in which the data are presented might affect their utility in improving food safety. The report also examines potential ways that food-safety benefits and other effects of publicly posting the data might be measured"--Publisher description. "[FSIS collects data] on all federally regulated processing or slaughter establishments and other facilities that are involved in the supply chain (such as warehouses, transporters, and retail stores)"--Page 5. 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (National Academies Press, viewed Dec. 29, 2011). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 610 10 United States.|bFood Safety and Inspection Service.|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82116627 610 17 United States.|bFood Safety and Inspection Service.|2fast |0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/571991 650 0 Food adulteration and inspection|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008103970 650 0 Food|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85050184 |zUnited States|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78095330-781|xSafety measures.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00007912 650 0 Disclosure of information|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh90003174|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zUnited States.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Electronic public records|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh98001207|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 2 Food Safety.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D059022 650 7 Food adulteration and inspection.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/930671 650 7 Food.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/930458 650 7 Industrial safety.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 971664 650 7 Disclosure of information|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https ://id.worldcat.org/fast/894872 650 7 Disclosure of information.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/894870 650 7 Electronic public records.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/907430 651 2 United States.|0https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014481 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 4 Electronic books. 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.).|bCommittee on a Study of Food Safety and Other Consequences of Publishing Establishment-Specific Data.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2012000218 776 08 |iPrint version:|aNational Research Council (U.S.).
