She stayed for twenty-one. The years covered by Monica Storrs's journal entries (1931 -9) were at times unbearably hard, the depression compounding what was already a demanding existence. She and the group of women she lived with, the Companions of the Peace, were sent out as 'missionaries of empire.' As the journals progress, Storrs's droll British wit persists but her imperialistic attitude softens as her work draws her into the lives around her. Expanding on the initial mandate to start Sunday schools, foster contact with women, and perform church services, she became involved in assembling libraries, lending money for seed grain, financing medical assistance, and organizing theatrical performances and poetry contests. After her death even the non-British inhabitants of the Peace River district described her as 'one of us.'"--Jacket. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Storrs, Monica,|d1888-1967|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79148333|vDiaries.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh99001602 600 10 Storrs, Monica,|d1888-1967|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n79148333|vCorrespondence.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001488 600 14 Storrs, Monica,|d1888-1967|vCorrespondence. 600 16 Storrs, Monica,|d1888-1967|xJournal intime. 600 16 Storrs, Monica,|d1888-1967|xCorrespondance. 600 17 Storrs, Monica,|d1888-1967.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/47751 610 20 Anglican Church of Canada|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n80044805|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001237 610 26 Companions of the Peace. 610 26 Église épiscopale du Canada|xBiographies. 610 27 Anglican Church of Canada.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/543205 650 0 Frontier and pioneer life|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85052074|zPeace River Valley (B.C. and Alta.) |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85098957-781 650 0 Pioneers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85102313|zPeace River Valley (B.C. and Alta.)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85098957-781|vDiaries. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001602 650 0 Pioneers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85102313|zPeace River Valley (B.C. and Alta.)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85098957-781 |vCorrespondence.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh99001488 650 0 Women pioneers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85147677|zPeace River Valley (B.C. and Alta.)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85098957-781|vDiaries. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001602 650 0 Women pioneers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85147677|zPeace River Valley (B.C. and Alta.)|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85098957-781 |vCorrespondence.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh99001488 650 7 Frontier and pioneer life.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/935370 650 7 Pioneers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1064447 650 7 Women pioneers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1178307 651 0 Peace River Valley (B.C. and Alta.)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85098957|xSocial life and customs. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2001008851 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Diaries.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423794 655 7 Correspondence.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 2003288 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 Records and correspondence.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1423917 655 7 Autobiographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026047 655 7 Autobiographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919894 655 7 Diaries.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms /gf2014026085 655 7 Personal correspondence.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/genreForms/gf2014026141 655 7 Personal correspondence.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1919948 700 1 Fast, Vera K.,|d1929-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n79148332 776 08 |iPrint version:|aStorrs, Monica, 1888-1967.|tCompanions of the Peace.|dToronto ; Buffalo : University of Toronto Press, ©1999|z9780802044747|w(DLC) 00503351 |w(OCoLC)43791499 830 0 North American immigrant letters, diaries and oral histories. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=468014|zOnline eBook.
