As a child psychotherapist, he was interested in exploring how a therapeutic group, meeting regularly, might offer a way of elaborating and meeting their needs. His account of these experiences is presented as a rare blend of anthropological and psychotherapeutic approaches to the study of children, and he is candid about the close, even intimate, relationships that resulted: ëI have crossed the classical ethnographic and psychoanalytic boundary of the cool observer. The therapist, while still awkwardly present, has also become an advocate in pursuit of the ethnographic.í The period of his research coincided with one of deep crisis in Zimbabweís economy: employment opportunities were few, public health and education services were in decay, and the prospects were grim for those on the margins of society. ëIn the course of my fieldwork I have attended too many funerals.í In the absence of state support, the poor look variously to international NGOs, and to the church. Parsons offers telling insights into the crossroads of donated pharmaceuticals and Christian faith, and is constantly alert to the place of traditional spirituality and ties of kinship. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 AIDS (Disease) in children|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh86001891|zZimbabwe.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80089993-781 650 0 HIV-positive persons|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh95001199|xCounseling of|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005356|zZimbabwe.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80089993-781 650 0 AIDS (Disease) in children|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh86001891|xPrevention.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99002416 650 0 AIDS (Disease) in children|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh86001891|xSocial aspects.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00002758 650 0 AIDS (Disease)|xPatients|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh92003115|xMedical care.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005607 650 7 AIDS (Disease) in children.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/793992 650 7 HIV-positive persons|xCounseling of.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/949916 650 7 HIV-positive persons.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 949912 650 7 AIDS (Disease) in children|xPrevention.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/793998 650 7 AIDS (Disease) in children|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/794000 650 7 AIDS (Disease)|xPatients|xMedical care.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/793887 650 7 AIDS (Disease)|xPatients.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/793864 650 7 HIV-positive people.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000636 651 7 Zimbabwe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1209419 655 4 Electronic books. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=456648|zOnline eBook.
