Summary |
Orientalism, onirism and mystery at the heart of this program gathered by Neeme Järvi for the Berliner Philharmoniker's summer concert. This concert recorded in 2006 gathers various works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Carl Nielsen and Massenet, who all drew their inspiration from iconic figures of the Eastern folk tales. Thus, this program pictures Sheherazade, the story teller in One Thousand and One Nights, Aladdin and Thais. Thais is the heroin of Massenet's opera, but the Meditation has become with no doubt one of the most popular pieces among the violin repertoire; Janine Jansen, a young and talented violinist, plays it as well as Camille Saint-Saëns's Introduction et rondo capriccioso, which the composer dedicated to the Spanish virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. Every year, the Berliner Philharmoniker give a summer concert at the Waldbühne, one of the most appealing venues in Europe. With over 22.000 in attendance, these concerts are some of the most popular classical music concerts in the world. In 2006, the orchestra under the baton of Neeme Järvi took us on a trip to Arabian One Thousand and One Nights, with soloist Janine Jansen. |
