Despite the serious and long-term consequences for victims as well as their families, communities, and society, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes are largely under supported, inefficient, uncoordinated, and unevaluated. Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States examines commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States under age 18. According to this report, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes require better collaborative approaches that build upon the capabilities of people and entities from a range of sectors. In addition, such efforts need to confront demand and the individuals who commit and benefit from these crimes. The report recommends increased awareness and understanding, strengthening of the law's response, strengthening of research to advance understanding and to support the development of prevention and intervention strategies, support for multi-sector and interagency collaboration, and creation of a digital information-sharing platform. A nation that is unaware of these problems or disengaged from solutions unwittingly contributes to the ongoing abuse of minors. If acted upon in a coordinated and comprehensive manner, the recommendations of Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States can help advance and strengthen the nation's emerging efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States"-- Publisher's description. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Child trafficking|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh2009006396|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Human trafficking|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh2006002629|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 7 Child trafficking.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1748734 650 7 Human trafficking.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1739818 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books|xhandbook. 655 7 Handbook.|2marcgt 700 1 Clayton, Ellen Wright,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2009108423|eeditor. 700 1 Krugman, Richard D.,|d1942-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n80070280|eeditor. 700 1 Simon, Patti,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2007119186|eeditor. 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.).|bCommittee on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States,|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2014065954|eissuing body. 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.).|bBoard on Children, Youth, and Families,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n2001087259|eissuing body. 710 2 National Research Council (U.S.).|bCommittee on Law and Justice,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n92114367 |eissuing body. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.). |tConfronting commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States : a guide for the legal sector.|dWashington, District of Columbia : National Academies Press, 2013|hxvi, 461 pages ; 23 cm |z9780309313407|w(DLC) 2013417545|w(OCoLC)849593072 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=907902|zOnline eBook.
