Summary It's 1679 and Samuel Pepys is in jail, charged with treason. Pepys is a powerful man, but his diary records every bribe he has paid or received and reveals the tempestuous relationship with his fiery French wife as well as affairs with society women, scullery maids and prostitutes. Can Samuel Pepys escape the gallows with his reputation intact, or will his diary be the ruin of him?
