A comparative analysis of these two global water conventions and the 1995 Mekong Agreement reveals that all three instruments are generally compatible. Nonetheless, the international legal principles and processes set forth in the two conventions can render the Mekong Agreement more up-to-date, robust and practical. The Governance Regime of the Mekong River Basin: Can the Global Water Conventions Strengthen the 1995 Mekong Agreement?' contends that strengthening the Agreement would be timely, given the increasing pressures associated with the rapid hydropower development within the basin and the gradually emerging disputes therein. Due to these fast-moving developments, Kinna and Rieu-Clarke strongly recommend that the Mekong states should seriously consider joining both conventions in order to buttress and clarify key provisions of the 1995 Mekong Agreement. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Water resources development|zMekong River Watershed. |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010118354 650 0 Water-supply|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85145648|zMekong River Watershed.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh93001420-781 650 7 Water resources development.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1171955 650 7 Water-supply.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1172350 651 0 Mekong River Watershed.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh93001420 651 7 Mekong River Watershed.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1264901 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Rieu-Clarke, Alistair.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/no2006074359 830 0 Brill research perspectives.|pInternational water law. |x2352-9350 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.1163/j.ctt1w8h0rj |zOnline eBook.
