This book reopens inquiry into Smetana by exploring the earliest scholarship on the composer to reveal how it generated political myths about him and his works. It also examines the ways in which these myths were adapted in twentieth-century scholarship to suit the ideologies of the communist administration. Smetana - not just a nationalist composer, but also a national symbol - remains a dynamic figure whose mythology has been rewritten time and time again to suit shifting political perspectives. 600 10 Smetana, Bedřich,|d1824-1884.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n50053339 600 17 Smetana, Bedřich,|d1824-1884.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/17846 600 17 Smetana, Bedřich|d1824-1884.|2gnd|0(DE-588)118615017 600 17 Wagner, Richard|d1813-1883.|2gnd|0(DE-588)118594117 650 0 Composers|zCzech Republic|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008101435 650 7 Composers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/871620 650 7 Nationalbewegung.|2gnd|0(DE-588)4171210-9 650 7 Nationalbewusstsein.|2gnd|0(DE-588)4041282-9 650 7 Musik.|2gnd|0(DE-588)4040802-4 650 7 Nationalismus.|2gnd|0(DE-588)4041300-7 650 7 Rezeption.|2gnd|0(DE-588)4049716-1 651 7 Czech Republic.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1256743 651 7 Tschechische Republik.|2gnd|0(DE-588)4303381-7 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 Biographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026049 830 0 Eastman studies in music ;|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /names/n93090808|vv. 139. 901 MARCIVE 20231220 948 |d20181012|cLTI|tlti-aup183 948 |d20171012|cLTI|tlti-aup173 948 |d20170922|clti|tlti-aex 994 C0|bWCH
