As an aesthetic based on a productive interaction of media and highlighting cinema's relationship with the other arts, intermediality always implies a state of in- betweenness which is capable of registering tensions and ambivalences that go beyond the realm of media. The comparative analyses of films from Hungary, Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Russia demonstrate that intermediality can be employed in this way as a form of introspection dealing with complex issues of art and society. Appearing in a variety of sensuous or intellectual modes, intermediality can become an effective poetic strategy to communicate how the cultures of the region are caught in-between East and West, past and present, emotional turmoil and more detached self -awareness. The diverse theoretical approaches that unravel this in-betweenness contribute to the understanding of intermedial phenomena in contemporary cinema as a whole."--Publisher description 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Motion pictures|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85088084|zEurope, Eastern|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85045765-781|xHistory.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Motion pictures|zRussia|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2010102553 650 7 Motion pictures.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1027285 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 HISTORY|zEurope|xFormer Soviet Republics.|2bisacsh 651 7 Eastern Europe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1245079 651 7 Russia.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1207312 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Pethő, Ágnes,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ nb2011013545|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tCaught in-between.|dEdinburgh : Edinburgh University Press, [2020]|z1474435491 |w(OCoLC)1039934797 830 0 Edinburgh studies in film and intermediality.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2015082032 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2491281|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
