She knew she had to learn more about this marvelous animal. Twenty years later, now a trained zoologist, she set off alone to Africa to study the behavior of giraffe in the wild. Years later, Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey would be driven by a similar devotion to study the behavior of wild apes. In Smitten by Giraffe the noted feminist reflects on her scientific work as well as the leading role she has played in numerous activist campaigns. On returning home to Canada, Anne married physicist Ian Dagg, had three children, published a number of scientific papers, taught at several local universities, and in 1967 earned her PhD in biology at the University of Waterloo. Dagg was continually frustrated in her efforts to secure a position as a regular professor despite her many publications and very good teaching record. Finally she opted instead to pursue her research as an independent "citizen scientist," while working part time as an academic advisor. Dagg would spend many years fighting against the marginalization of women in the arts and sciences."--|cProvided by publisher. 520 "Boldly documenting widespread sexism in Canadian universities while also discussing Dagg's involvement with important zoological topics such as homosexuality, infanticide, sociobiology, and taxonomy, Smitten by Giraffe offers an inside perspective on the workings of scientific research and debate, the history of Canadian academia, and the rise of second-wave feminism."-- |cProvided by publisher. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Dagg, Anne Innis.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n50042177 600 17 Dagg, Anne Innis.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1434854 650 0 Women zoologists|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh91002000|zCanada|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79007233-781|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Women scientists|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85147705|zCanada|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n79007233-781|vBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Women college teachers|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85147503|zCanada|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79007233-781|vBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001237 650 0 Women in higher education|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002002425|zCanada.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Sexism in higher education|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities /subjects/sh97008722|zCanada.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79007233-781 650 0 Giraffe|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85055000|zAfrica.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85001531-781 650 7 Women zoologists.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1178700 650 7 Women scientists.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1178507 650 7 Women college teachers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1177488 650 7 Women in higher education.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1177898 650 7 Sexism in higher education.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/1114716 650 7 Giraffe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/942809 651 7 Canada.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204310 651 7 Africa.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1239509 655 4 Electronic books. 655 6 Autobiographies. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 655 7 Autobiographies.|2lcgft|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ genreForms/gf2014026047 655 7 Autobiographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1919894 776 08 |iPrint version:|tSmitten by giraffe.|kFootprints series |kFootprints series ;|w(CaOONL)20169037053 830 0 Footprints (Cheltenham, England) ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2003026733|v22. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1347377|zOnline eBook.
