The editors, Mordechai Feingold and Elizabethanne Boran, have brought together papers which explore how, when, where and why the Principial was appropriated by readers in Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, England and Ireland. Particular focus is laid on the methods of transmission of Newtonian ideas via university textbooks and popular works written for educated laymen and women. At the same time, challenges to the Newtonian consensus are explored by writers such as Marius Stan and Catherine Abou-Nemeh who examine Cartesian and Leibnizian responses to the Principial. Eighteenth-century attempts to remodel Newton as a heretic are explored by Feingold, while William R. Newman draws attention to vital new sources highlighting the importance of alchemy to Newton. 588 Description based on print version record and CIP data provided by publisher; resource not viewed. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 10 Newton, Isaac,|d1642-1727.|tPrincipia.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/names/n85003718 630 07 Principia (Newton, Isaac)|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1801420 648 7 Early works to 1800|2fast 648 7 17th century|2fast 648 7 18th century|2fast 648 7 1600-1799|2fast 650 0 Mechanics|vEarly works to 1800.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2008107595 650 0 Celestial mechanics|vEarly works to 1800.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2009118599 650 0 Physics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85101653|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85045631-781|xHistory|y17th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006123 650 0 Physics|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85101653|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85045631-781|xHistory|y18th century.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2002006124 650 7 Mechanics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1013446 650 7 Celestial mechanics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 850133 650 7 Physics.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1063025 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 651 7 Europe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1245064 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Early works.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411636 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 Boran, Elizabethanne,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2005061046|eeditor. 700 1 Feingold, Mordechai,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names /n83011666|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tReading Newton in early modern Europe |dLeiden ; Boston : Brill, [2017]|z9789004336643|w(DLC) 2017012863 830 0 History of science and medicine library.|pScientific and learned cultures and their institutions ;|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2011143193|vv. 19. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1587341|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
