It proposes a minimalist analysis of English gerunds which allows only a null subject PRO (TP- defective gerunds), a lexical subject (gerunds as complements of perception verbs), or both types of subjects (clausal gerunds). It then analyzes Portuguese infinitives, showing that the morphosyntactic properties of non-inflected and inflected infinitives correlate with distinct treatments of obligatory and non-obligatory control. It explores these and other phenomena to show. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Grammar, Comparative and general|xSyntax.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85056338 650 0 Grammar, Comparative and general|xGerund.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh88003328 650 0 Grammar, Comparative and general|xInfinitive.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85056298 650 0 Minimalist theory (Linguistics)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh95003803 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general|xSyntax.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/946258 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general|xGerund.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/946176 650 7 Grammar, Comparative and general|xInfinitive.|2fast|0https ://id.worldcat.org/fast/946190 650 7 Minimalist theory (Linguistics)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1022853 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPires, Acrisio.|tMinimalist syntax of defective domains.|dPhiladelphia : John Benjamins Pub.
