Piero's (1462-1522) critical fortunes have been much revived and his admirers? sense of curiosity piqued by two exhibitions, organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, and the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence. Together, the exhibitions marked and celebrated a pair of firsts. The first-ever major retrospectives devoted entirely to Piero?s artistic career and the first joint-exhibition collaboration between the National Gallery of Art and the Uffizi in the distinguished history of the two institutions. It could be said that the study of Piero di Cosimo belongs no less to the history of imagination than to the history of art. As was true for Giorgio Vasari five centuries ago, Piero?s highly personal visual language remains a moving target for modern scholars. Yet, as surprising and alluringly strange as his pictorial solutions appear, it may be claimed that we have never known or understood as much about Piero as we do today. Freed from the powerful spell of Vasari?s biography -cum-cautionary tale, the Piero that emerges is not solely a conjurer of the uncanny, but a sensitive observer of the natural and manmade worlds, humans and beasts, surfaces and coloristic effects, phenomena material and ephemeral. 546 English and Italian. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 00 Piero,|cdi Cosimo,|d1462-1521|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n82210775|vCongresses.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001533 600 07 Piero,|cdi Cosimo,|d1462-1521.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/104144 650 7 ART|xHistory|xGeneral.|2bisacsh 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1423772 655 7 Conference papers and proceedings.|2lcgft|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026068 700 1 Geronimus, Dennis,|d1972-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2006023211|eeditor. 700 1 Kwakkelstein, Michael W.,|d1963-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n95044707|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPiero di Cosimo : painter of faith and fable (Conference) (2015 : Istituto universitario olandese di storia dell'arte).|tPiero di Cosimo.|dLeiden ; Boston : Brill, [2019]|z9789004363052|w(DLC) 2018047823 |w(OCoLC)1019737546 830 0 NIKI studies in Netherlandish-Italian art history ;|0https ://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2019078107|v12. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=2091831|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
