Summary There are three reasons why The Work-List of Henry Erben is a significant work of scholarship. First, the book provides an accurate list of Erben's organs. This is no small accomplishment given the numerous errors and contradictions in Erben's published work-lists and the absence of shop and business records. Second, Stephen L. Pinel has given us a solid platform on which future studies of the New York organ builder can be built. "The Work-List of Henry Erben" will allow researchers to explore many different facets of Erben's work and how his instruments were built, received, and played. Finally, this book will help to put Erben in his rightful place among the great organ builders of his century--Foreword.
