Through their use of a case study approach, they comment upon the ways in which youth protest has been influenced by the electronic and social media and evaluate the effectiveness of protest activities, many of which were framed in reaction to neo-liberalism and state authoritarianism. A number of the authors further comment upon the utility of employing social movement theory to analyze the nature and character of protest actions, while others situate such events within specific political, social and cultural contexts. The case studies focus upon protest activities in Bahrain, Turkey, Iran, Cambodia, South Africa, China, Russia, Chile, Spain, and the U.S., and together, they offer a comparative analysis of an important global phenomenon. In so doing, the authors further address issues involving the changing nature of globalized protest participation, its immediate and long- term consequences, and the ways in which protests have encouraged a re-evaluation of the nature of inequality, as constructed within educational, social, and political spheres. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 21st century|2fast 648 7 2000 - 2099|2fast 650 0 Text messaging (Cell phone systems)|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2012001654 650 0 Social media.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh2006007023 650 0 Youth|xPolitical activity|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85149336|y21st century.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2002012478 650 0 Youth movements|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85149384|y21st century.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002012478 650 7 Text messaging (Cell phone systems)|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1895627 650 7 Social media.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1741098 650 7 Youth|xPolitical activity.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1183486 650 7 Youth movements.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1716075 650 7 Social media.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0001321 650 7 Youth.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/homoit0001520 650 24 Education (general) 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Epstein, Irving,|d1951-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n86868368|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tWhole world is texting|z9789463000536 |w(OCoLC)910921107 830 0 Pittsburgh studies in comparative and international education ;|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ no2011196752|vvolume 5. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1057250|zOnline eBook.
