Most of the essays deal with the relationship between science and Confucianism, especially the roles that Confucian thought, values, and institutions have on the development of science. Kim shows that this relationship is very complex and multifaceted, and cannot be dealt with in a simplistic manner. Kim offers comparative perspectives and discusses the problems of intercultural comparisons; he demonstrates that in spite of the potential dangers that accompany these comparisons, they should be made nonetheless as they allow for a better understanding of the situation in East Asia. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Science|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85118553|zEast Asia|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85040525-781|xHistory.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005024 650 0 Science|xHistory|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85118570|vCross-cultural studies.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99001526 650 7 Science.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1108176 650 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/958235 650 7 Civilization.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/862898 651 0 East Asia|xCivilization|xConfucian influences.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh95004942 651 7 East Asia.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1243628 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Cross-cultural studies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1423769 655 7 History.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aKim, Yŏng-sik, 1947- author.|sEssays.
