Using visual and textual sources, this book argues that artists repurposed Christian and Renaissance visual idioms to embody themes from classical Persian literature and represent Mughal policy, ideology and dynastic history. A reevaluation of illustrated manuscripts and album paintings incorporating landscape scenery, portraiture, and European objects demonstrates that the appropriation of European elements was highly motivated by Mughal concerns. This book aims to establish a better understanding of cross-cultural exchange from the Mughal perspective by emphasizing the agency of local artists active in the workshops of Emperors Akbar and Jahangir. 588 0 Online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on March 14, 2019). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Painting, Mogul Empire|xEuropean influences.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2018001689 650 0 Painting, Mogul Empire|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85096807|xThemes, motives.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2001008982 650 0 Art, European|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85007650|xInfluence.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2002005444 650 7 Painting, Mogul Empire|xEuropean influences.|2fast|0https: //id.worldcat.org/fast/2002802 650 7 Painting, Mogul Empire.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1051018 650 7 Themes, motives.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1355139 650 7 Art, European|xInfluence.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/816255 650 7 Art, European.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/816244 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aNatif, Mika.|tMughal occidentalism. |dLeiden ; Boston : Brill, [2018]|z9789004371095|w(DLC) 2018024069|w(OCoLC)1043071776 830 0 Studies in Persian cultural history ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2012150477|vv. 15. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1913449|zOnline ebook via EBSCO.
