It proposes that all of this material ultimately owes its genesis to one historical and literary figure, Philip the apostle. This proposition is explored through a wide-ranging examination of the evidence: Luke's redactional employment of traditional materials about Philip the apostle in Acts 8:4 -25 and 8:26-40, the evidence of the canonical Gospels, the second-century perspective on Philip as an apostolic authority figure invoked to legitimate various Christian practices, Philip's apostolic authority in "gnostic" documents for the transmission of the revelatory teaching of Jesus, and the Acts of Philip as a witness to the formation of Christian culture in the earliest centuries. While historical issues are considered where possible, the focus is on the life of the traditions and their reception. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 600 00 Philip,|cthe Evangelist, Saint.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n2002091018 600 00 Philip,|cthe Apostle, Saint.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n93096386 600 06 Philippe,|cl'évangéliste, saint. 600 06 Philippe,|cl'apôtre, saint. 600 07 Philip,|cthe Evangelist, Saint.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/482161 600 07 Philip,|cthe Apostle, Saint.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/329394 600 07 Philippus|cEvangelist.|2swd 600 07 Philippus|cApostel.|2swd 630 04 Bible|xCriticism, interpretation, etc. 630 07 Acta Philippi.|2swd 630 07 Apostelgeschichte 8,4-40.|2swd 630 07 Evangelium Philippi.|2swd 655 4 Electronic books. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aMatthews, Christopher R.|tPhilip, Apostle and Evangelist.|dLeiden ; Boston : Brill, 2002 |z9004120548|w(DLC) 2002028002|w(OCoLC)50314605 830 0 Supplements to Novum Testamentum ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n84722546|vv. 105.|x0167-9732 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=105543|zOnline eBook.
