Summary This book explores the first twelve books of the 38 handwritten volumes of Virginia Woolf's diary, the early experimental stage before her diary writing evolved to a more mature, modernist style. This is the first full-length treatment of Woolf's diaries and shows how heavily her public prose was influenced not only by her own early diary writing, but also by other diarists such as Samuel Pepys and Fanny Burney.
