It provides context in China's demand for aviation products and aviation industrial policies, while assessing technology transfers and impact on U.S. competitiveness. Since 2005, Chinese companies have steadily increased investment in U.S. aviation by acquiring, merging, or establishing joint ventures with more than a dozen U.S. aviation companies without directly running afoul of U.S. regulation. The combination of Chinese government policy to become globally competitive in aviation and the availability of capital drives these investments, but they are constrained by U.S. government foreign investment and export laws as well as classic business concerns about return on investment. While China has unambiguous government policies supporting the development of a globally competitive aviation industry, Chinese investment in U.S. aviation over the past decade has primarily involved lower-technology general aviation manufacturers that do not affect U.S. competitiveness. Chinese demand for large commercial aircraft may be as much as one-fifth of global demand, but the duopoly nature of global aviation also creates barriers to China's goal of developing a globally competitive commercial aircraft manufacturer, as any manufacturer of a new commercial aircraft struggles to achieve efficiencies of scale"-- Publisher's description. 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (RAND, viewed April 10, 2017). 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 648 7 2000-|2fast 648 7 Since 2000|2fast 650 0 Aerospace industries|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh2007100721 650 0 Aerospace industries|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85001423|zChina.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79091151-781 650 0 Investments, Chinese|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh88002495|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n78095330-781 650 0 Government business enterprises|zChina.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008105348 650 0 Aircraft industry|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85002753|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zChina.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79091151-781 650 0 Aeronautics, Commercial|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85001360|xGovernment policy|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh99005269|zChina.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79091151-781 650 0 National security|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85140387 650 7 Aerospace industries.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 798631 650 7 Investments, Chinese.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 978350 650 7 Government business enterprises.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/945198 650 7 Economic policy.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 902025 650 7 Aircraft industry|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/802864 650 7 Aircraft industry.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 802848 650 7 Aeronautics, Commercial|xGovernment policy.|2fast|0https:/ /id.worldcat.org/fast/798501 650 7 Aeronautics, Commercial.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/798462 650 7 National security.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1033711 651 0 China|xEconomic policy|y2000-|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00001557 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 651 7 China.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1206073 655 4 Electronic books. 710 2 Rand Corporation,|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/ n78083407|epublisher,|eissuing body. 776 08 |iPrint version:|z0833097148|z9780833097149 |w(OCoLC)982431136 830 0 Research report (Rand Corporation) ;|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/no2013072664|vRR-1755-USCC. 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=1520324|zOnline eBook.
