These assumptions run counter to the multicultural and religiously plural nature of our society. They are also wrong. This book elaborates how those assumptions are descriptively incorrect, and it begins an important conversation about whether more pluralism in family law is normatively desirable. For example, may couples rely on religious tribunals (Jewish, Muslim, or otherwise) to decide family law disputes? May couples opt into stricter divorce rules, either through premarital contracts or "covenant marriages"? How should the state respond when couples purport to do these things? Intentionally interdisciplinary and international in scope, this volume contains contributions from fourteen leading scholars. The authors address the provocative question of where the state must consider sharing its jurisdictional authority with other groups in family law"--Provided by publisher. 588 0 Print version record. 590 eBooks on EBSCOhost|bEBSCO eBook Subscription Academic Collection - North America 650 0 Marriage law.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh85081508 650 0 Divorce|xLaw and legislation.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85038619 650 0 Multiculturalism|xLaw and legislation.|0https://id.loc.gov /authorities/subjects/sh93001611 650 0 Religion and law.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects /sh85112572 650 0 Legal polycentricity.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh98004273 650 7 Marriage law.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1010611 650 7 Divorce|xLaw and legislation.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/895818 650 7 Multiculturalism|xLaw and legislation.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1028840 650 7 Religion and law.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1093835 650 7 Legal polycentricity.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 995519 650 7 Marriage law.|2homoit|0https://homosaurus.org/v3/ homoit0000992 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Nichols, Joel A.,|d1972-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n2011030625 776 08 |iPrint version:|tMarriage and divorce in a multicultural context.|dNew York : Cambridge University Press, 2012 |z9780521194754|z052119475X|w(DLC) 2011019706 |w(OCoLC)723529928 856 40 |uhttps://rider.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http:// search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site& db=nlebk&AN=409078|zOnline eBook via EBSCO.
