The author researches the phenomenon of highly qualified migration using the example of migration between the Czech Republic and Germany. The book reveals diverse strategies migrants use to respond to the possible de-valuation of their qualification, e.g. by making use of their language skills, starting new studies or using transnational knowledge. Anna Guhlich investigates the role of migration within the biographies, the shifts of social positions, as well as the ways migrants negotiate their skills, qualification and knowledge across the borders. Based on biographical narrative interviews, she investigates the migration pathways and the processes of social mobility. The study investigates the influence developments within the Czech society have on migration decisions and transnational spaces as well as o 542 1 |fThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons license |uhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode 588 0 Print version record. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 650 0 Professional employees|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh85107253|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh85045631-781|xBiography.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99004833 650 0 Foreign workers|zEurope|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2007100992|xBiography.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99004833 650 0 Diversity in the workplace.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh94007733 650 0 Immigrants|xCultural assimilation.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh00005553 650 0 Emigration and immigration|xEconomic aspects.|0https:// id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85042783 650 7 Professional employees.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/ fast/1078481 650 7 Biography.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/832149 650 7 Foreign workers.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1729099 650 7 Diversity in the workplace.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org /fast/895719 650 7 Immigrants|xCultural assimilation.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/967721 650 7 Emigration and immigration|xEconomic aspects.|2fast|0https ://id.worldcat.org/fast/908694 651 7 Europe.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1245064 655 4 Electronic books. 655 7 Biographies.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1919896 776 08 |iPrint version:|aGuhlich, Anna.|tMigration and Social Pathways : Biographies of Highly Educated People Moving East-West-East in Europe.|dLeverkusen-Opladen : Budrich, Barbara, ©2017|z9783847421184 830 0 Qualitative Fall- und Prozessanalysen / Biographie - Interaktion - soziale Welten. 856 40 |uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvdf0ddg|zOnline eBook.
