They introduce a new software tool that automates one step of the methodology- EPIC-and demonstrate its use with three case studies to illustrate the technique and also the tool's flexibility. EPIC allows analysts to efficiently analyze multiple policy documents to detect potential conflicts in policy early on, thereby allowing policy developers to focus their attention on the need for clarification and, possibly, changes in policy. The authors relate executive positions to R & R and the products that result from their execution. If it can be shown that more than one actor is assigned to take the same action on the same product, then a potential conflict exists in the body of policy. If, on the other hand, no executive is assigned to take action on a product, then there is a potential gap in the body of policy. Use of this new tool will result in better and more consistent defense policy. 546 English. 590 JSTOR|bBooks at JSTOR Open Access 610 10 United States.|bDepartment of Defense|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79021946|xPersonnel management|0https:/ /id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00006939|xData processing.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/ sh99005487 610 10 United States.|bDepartment of Defense|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/names/n79021946|xOfficials and employees |0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh00005024 |xSelection and appointment.|0https://id.loc.gov/ authorities/subjects/sh99002537 610 17 United States.|bDepartment of Defense.|2fast|0https:// id.worldcat.org/fast/1852447 650 0 Manpower|zUnited States.|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ subjects/sh2008107331 650 7 Personnel management.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/ 1058797 650 7 Manpower.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1007872 651 7 United States.|2fast|0https://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204155 655 0 Electronic books. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Wong, Carolyn,|d1952-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n97044557|eauthor. 700 1 Gonzales, Daniel,|d1956-|0https://id.loc.gov/authorities/ names/n97079841|eauthor. 700 1 Ohlandt, Chad J.
