Summary |
Thornton is heartbroken and humiliated, but at least the strike is over. Margaret's friend Bessy dies and Margaret travels to London to see the Great Exhibition. Thornton is there on business, and Margaret is impressed by his professionalism. Frederick arrives just in time to be at his mother's bedside as she dies. Margaret and Frederick become mixed up in a police incident as Frederick leaves Milton clandestinely. Thornton mistakes Frederick for Margaret's lover but still helps her out of her difficulties with the police. She is deeply grateful to him but he still feels intensely hurt. Will they ever be united? |
